Virginia Creeper Bike Trip
Event Leader: Jim E.

We will leave the Winn-Dixie parking lot at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning June 4th and travel to the Virginia Creeper Trail area in Damascus, VA. It should be about a 3 hour drive. We will set up our camp site at the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, Bear Tree Campground. Remember to bring your own tents. (They claim indoor plumbing and flush "facilities"!) Plan on cooler temperatures in the mountains. (Check out the Weather Link below for local Damascus, VA weather forecasts.) Between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, we will travel to the Pizza Hut in Abington, about 15 miles away. We will eat as a group, but you will be responsible for your own dinner bill.

Sunday morning, after a pancake breakfast, we will pack up camp and travel to Blue Blaze Bike rental company in Damascus Virginia. There, we will catch a shuttle to the top of Whitetop Station in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. It is a 17 mile DOWNHILL ride back to Damascus. Bikes can be rented, or bring your own. Bicycles can be rented from Blue Blaze for $10.

I need to know 2 weeks before we leave how many bikes to rent & how many bus riders. Bike rental includes a "free" bus ride.

Bring your own lunch for both Saturday & Sunday. We can eat together at Whitetop before we leave. We will have a bike crew with medical supplies and limited bike tools at the back of the pack. We can request Gel seats for all adult rented bikes. "Trailer" bikes for "young" riders are also available.

On Sunday after the ride, when you are ready, head back to Charlotte on your own. Follow the links below for more details on both the trail and the campsite.
